Now we have a small and lightweight GPS receiver which can be mounted to any digital camera hot-shoe which lets you record the GPS data and time of every photo you take.

After transfering the data from photoGPS to your computer, you can even receive historic GPS satellite information corresponding to the times the raw GPS data was recorded which is used by JOBO’s software to calculate the locations, reverse geocodes them, and geotags the photos with the resulting location information such as Country name, Region and District, City, Postal code, Street name, and nearby points of interest (POIs) such as tourist attractions, beaches, mountain peaks, museums, opera or theatre houses, concert halls, sport stadiums, parks, etc. in addition to latitude, longitude and altitude are also available. Look quite useful to me. The photoGPS for Windows operating systems will be available in October 2008 for €159,0.

A new Leica compact camera, the D-Lux 4, was spotted in the pages of French print magazine Chasseur d'Images.

Priced at approximately $980, the new Leica D-Lux 4 is physically almost identical to the old D-Lux except the hotshoe on the top and the wider and faster 24-60mm ƒ2-2.8 lens(D-Lux 3 had a 28-112mm ƒ2.8 - 4.9 lens). 10.1 MP image sensor has slightly lower resolution and sensor size compared to D-Lux 3 (10.1-MP vs 10.4-MP, 1/1.65" tvs. 1/1.63").
The official announcement by Leica is expected to be during Photokina 2008. |

Panasonic announced Lumix DMC-G1, the first Micro Four Thirds camera. The new Lumix DMC-G1 is using an electronic viewfinder instead of a conventional optical viewfinder thus dropping the mirror mechanism and making the camera body much smaller then a regular DSLR. Lumix DMC-G1 features a new 12.1-Megapixel Live MOS Four Thirds sensor whixh will probably be used in other coming Four Thirds DSLRs by Olympus and Panasonic in the future. A 3-inch 460K dot freee-angle LCD and 1,440,000-dot equivalent Live View Finder both provide full-time Live View with %100 coverage. The new successor to the 10.1 megapixel Panasonic DMC-L10 and the third Panasonic DSLR claims to offer unique features to set a new trend in digital SLR photography. This really makes me wonder what kind of unique features will be announced with the new Panasonic, fortunately only 5 days left for the official event. More leaks coming from Sony, this time a photo of a a guy (probably a test user for the soon-to-be-announced 24.6 MP FF Sony DSLR ) using a Sony A900 and a Carl Zeiss 16-35mm f2.8 is posted on a Chinese forum.

We have been hearing rumors of this lens for a long time and now we are definitely sure that it exists. Some of the markings are taped but when you look closely you can clearly see the 16mm on the wide end and the 35mm marking on the other along with the blue Zeiss logo.
Carl Zeiss 16-35mm f2.8 SSM will be the second FF zoom lens for Sony/Minolta A-mount. The first one, 24-70mm SSM, is arguably one of the best lens in this range, even better then the new Nikon 24-70mm in many respects according to trustworthy tests published on the web. Personally I have no doubt the new 16-35mm will even or outperform the Canon 16-35mm f2.8 II USM in the IQ department, but lets wait and see anyway. |
