Nikon D700 Full Frame DSLR Rumors
Wednesday, 18 June 2008

New rumors for a full-frame DSLR camera have come up in a chinese forum. According to a user who claims to be working for a printing company submitted photos below that he has taken with his cell phone, which are supposed to be the brochure of new Nikon D700. We are not sure about the originality of the photos, it may easily be fake but one thing that I noticed is the size of the viewfinder housing. It looks to be a bit small for a full frame digital DSLR viewfinder. It looks like D700 shares same sensor -a 12.1 MP CMOS- with Nikon D3.

Top Selling DSLR Cameras at Amazon
Tuesday, 17 June 2008

I believe that Amazon* is one of the best places to follow the trend of the sales in Digital Photography products. Besides, they update the bestseller list hourly so that you can even notice how things change so quickly in the DSLR market almost live.

What we do here to create the list of best sellers is to record this hourly updated list several timed during the day and then take the average of the ranking to find the most accurate top sellers list. Below is the table of best selling DSLR cameras of last 2 days at Amazon.

As you see, there are 5 Canon, 4 Nikon and 1 Olympus cameras in the list. Canon is going strong in the entry level since the introduction of Digital Rebel Xsi / 450 D. Nikon D40 pr,ced almost down to $450 and D80 at $729.95 are real bargains. Olympus E510 sells very good despite the introduction of E520. The most expensive in the top 10 list is the Nikon D300. It is very exciting to see this semi-pro DSLR selling as well as entry level DSLRs

25 Nikon D300 Reviews on the Web
Thursday, 12 June 2008

Almost 10 months after its first announcement, D300 is still one of the most popular DSLR in the market. One of the factors that supports D300's strong position is that it has no direct competition in its class, being a real Semi-Pro DSLR with advanced features like 8 fps shooting speed, 51-point pro class AF, viewfinder with %100 coverage and many more... It is even comparable, if not better, than the previous Nikon flagship DSLR D2x in many areas and priced approximately 1/3 of its price. This camera deserves attention for sure.

Here in this post we have selected and listed the 25 best Nikon D300 reviews that have been published on the web so far. If you think there are more good D300 reviews that are not listed on this post, please let us know so that we can add that too.

Sigma DP1 Firmware Update Version 1.03
Thursday, 12 June 2008

Sigma has released a new firmware update for its popular compact digital camera with APS-C sized image sensor: DP1

With the new firmware, DP1 now can shoot at ISO 50 which promises noise free images with very high detail level. This is good news for landscape photographers, on the other hand Sigma notes that ISO 50 on DP1has a narrow dynamic range compared to ISO 100 and above settings and therefore may blow out highlight detail such as brightness or high saturation areas. This means photographers need to work a bit more carefully especially during metering.

List of the improvements with Firmware Version 1.2:

  • ISO 50 has been added into the ISO setting
  • Grid Display mode shows Display Icons
  • Shorten the pre-flash time in the Red-eye reduction flash mode

Canon 1000D / Xs vs. 450D / Xsi Quick Comparison
Tuesday, 10 June 2008

Here we prepared a quick comparison table for the recently announced Canon 1000D / Xs and 450D / Xsi (Canon 400D is also included) to give you an idea about what you get over 400D / Xti and what you miss from 450D / Xsi.

From our first impressions, 1000D seems to be crippled version of 450D / Xsi and priced $200 lower at the same time, which is aiming to compete directly against cameras like Nikon D60,Sony A200 and Olympus E420. Despite the very competitive price, 1000D / Xs still has the Live View advantage over Nikon and Sony. It is not hard to predict that Canon will probably gain back the #1 position in the entry level DSLR market once again with the new 1000D / Xs.

Nikon D60 Reviews on the Web
Saturday, 31 May 2008

Announced on January 2008, D60 is the latest entry-level DSLR on the Nikon line. It is based on the Nikon D40/D40x with minimal exterior changes and some extra features like Airflow Control System, Image Sensor Cleaning, and a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR kit lens which is very welcomed by the potential users who have also been considering DSLRs like Sony, Olympus and Pentax which have in-body image stabilization system.

Lack of Live View is unfortunately quite a big disadvantage for D60 when compared to entry cameras from other producers like Canon Digital Rebel Xsi / 450D, Sony A300 / A350 or Olympus E-420 / E-520 that have Live View feature. Next generation of D60 cameras will surely have this feature, but until that Nikon has to keep the price in a very competitve level not to lose market on this entry level section.
